HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!!!

It was a GREAT weekend for us. After the rain finally stopped and all the horses stopped shivering, the weekend weather was perfect. It was chilly (70's ) and sunny. We had a great time riding. Alonso is really learning his stuff. Pretty soon he's going to be calf roping and riding broncos. Memo and I spent the Saturday and SUnday workign hard on Captain and Zee. We were riding them and getting them to relax. Zee is now to a point of trotting as well. It's so exciting seeing these little babies that came to us so scared turning into such incredible horses.

Yesterday was fun time!!! We all (Alonso, Memo and I) went for a 2.5 hour trail ride out intot he desert. We ran into and Eagles nest. It was incredible!! While we were out there, we decided to go to the local Circle K and get something to drink. I think both my cowboys liked the idea of riding to the store!!

Isack is getting used to having Alonso. They seem to both have TONS of energy!!

A LITTLE RAIN.....OK A LOT OF RAIN!!!!

Last night we spent 2 hours moving poor shivering horses around to warmer stalls. Most of them were fine but a few of the older ones were quite cold. After spending the time moving horses we also decided to do a night time feed to keep their metabolism cruising. That seemed to make a big difference for them. It has been raining non-stop for 2 days now. WE have worked hard to keep the puddles from forming in the stalls, but it's a neverending battle right now.

The good part about yesterday was that we picked Alonso up for the summer!!!! YEAH!!!!! He got to meet his new dog... Isack!! He was so happy to have him and Isack was way happy to be had!! Here they are playing on a rainy day up on the sawdust pile.

Alonso will be with us all summer. We are too excited.

ONLY IN APACHE JUNCTION

While we were getting ready to feed the other day, I looked out on the street.... imagine my surprise to see a giant Longhorn Steer walking down the street... with someone riding it. Since I hadn't drank any margaritas yet I knew it was true.! So my friend Diane and I jumped in the Xena (what we call our little 4 x 4 feed cart) and drove up to be sure we weren't nuts! There we came in contact with Pancho (no not the dog) but Pancho the 5 year old steer. The owner was just taking him out for a cruise. He was very well mannered and quite handsome... the steer not the cowboy. Actually I don't know if any of us even looked at the cowboy!

Anyway it was a fun weekend. Our friend Brian was here and we had a great cookout in town on Saturday night. A good showing of the boarders came and Brian sang. The kids were playing poker in the saloon. It was a good thing! Makes us realize how lucky we are to have such a wonderful place to call home.

Brian and Janis own Montan. The 2 year old we rescued from Canada when he was 4 months with his mom Tessa. He is now saddle broke and I am teaching Brian to ride on Mark so he can soon be riding his boy.

GREAT WEEK AT THE RANCH

It was a good week. We got lots of little rain storms that helped quell the dust. The best part of the week happened in the beginning. Memo went into town and took Maria to lunch. He had a great time and it made his week. I got to run up and see both her and ... get this... our Grandson, Julian. I haven't seen him since Christmas. Wow has he grown. Maria is doing a great job with him, he looks and acts like an angel! Hopefully soon we'll have him riding on Zowie. Maybe Maria will learn to ride too!

Well this weekend should be fun. We are having a BBQ in our old West town for friends and our boarders. I will be sure and post those on Monday.

Foster dog from Hell!!!!

Ok I love Isack... he is quite cute BUT he is a monkey, not a dog. he climbs everywhere and gets in and out of places that no normal dog shoul dbe able to get in and out of. Here is a picture of him on my WASHING MACHINE!! Not that I would mind him up there if he would just learn how to do the laundry... but alas that is not happening. Life at the Circle C is never boring!!!

Sunday was Mother's day and what a Mother's day it was. Mom and I went out for our first trail ride in a year. It was great. While we were riding we found an Eagle's nest with 2 eagles. It was amazing, we also saw a ton of quail and quail families as well as roadrunners. I have to say it was one of the best rides I have ever had. Mack was happy to have his "Mom" back on him. The evening we spent cooking a typical summer meal of burgers, potato salad and fruit.

Speaking of the ranch, we hired a new ranch hand this week. She is doing good but we just can't keep her from eating all the hay! Ok so it's nto a new employee but Chloe our resident goat.

New Foster "Kids"

Last night we picked up some new fosters. A cutie 7 month old Border Collie named Isack.
He's adjusting to the ranch quite well. He actually went for a trail ride with Mom and I last night. The only problem with him is he is an escape artist. It seems he can scale walls, slip through fences and basically get to wherever he wants. All the other dogs seem to think he's ok... except Pancho. I should rephrase that...Pancho likes him and plays with him unless his "Dad" (Memo) is around. Last night Memo scoulded the little guy for something and Pancho marched right over there and gave him an "I told you so" kind of bark. It was too cute!

I said fosters plural because we also have a lovely little tiny cat named Petunia and her 4 babies. They are about a week old. She is a good mommy and VERY protective over them. Just ask Maggie...she got attacked by them when she walked in the door. Poor little dog never saw what was coming. She's too used to the cats loving on her... as the example picture of her with Candy.

HORSE SHOW MADNESS!!!

We went to our first horse show on Saturday the 3rd. We had 4 different people showing as well as my two cousins and their kids in a leadline class. Naomi was going to show Salona, but sadly Salona got hurt the day before. Naomi took a pitch hit and did a quick clean on Popper and took him instead. I am very proud to say both Popper and Naomi did quite well. You can see on the one Picture all of us riding over to the ring. Danny decided to try his hand at the show with Smitty. Poor Smitty just came down from Oregon so he is still wearing his winter fur! They had a great time. Smitty is such a nice calm horse.

My cousin John showed his first show too. He had to borrow some clothes from Memo but it worked!

Diane took her husband's horse Chance. Joe (her husband) and Memo got to be grooms for the day. They both did such a good job getting all of us clean and beautiful and being "show husbands" for the night. They were VERY encouraging, though I think it was far more fun for Diane and I! I showed Scooter. She looked very pretty and did a nice job considering her time under saddle.

Diane showed her in the halter class for me because, well simply I don't like to run! All in all it was a great night. We had a lot of fun and unbeknownest to our husbands both Diane and I are now addicted and looking forward to the shows in the fall.
